چکیده

The orienteering problem (OP) is defined on a graph in which scores are assigned to the vertices and a travel time is assigned to each edge linking two vertices. The objective of the OP is to select a subset of vertices and determine the order in which they are visited so that the total collected score is maximized while the maximum total travel time is not exceeded. In addition, a feasible OP solution should start and end at a predetermined vertex. Orienteering problems are typically used in logistic planning tools and they serve as the basic problem formulation of personalized touristic trip planners. This research focuses on developing metaheuristics to obtain solutions within a few seconds of computation time for time-dependent orienteering problems (TD-OP) which means that the travel time between two vertices depends on the departure time at the first vertex. This specific problem formulation allows us to tackle congestion related issues in routing problems. To the best of our knowledge, a solution method for this problem is only provided in journal papers by Abbaspour et al. (2011) and Garcia et al. (2013).

A fast solution method for the time-dependent orienteering problem

This paper introduces a fast solution procedure to solve 100-node instances of the time-dependent orienteering problem (TD-OP) within a few seconds of computation time. Orienteering problems occur in logistic situations were an optimal combination of locations needs to be selected and the routing between the selected locations needs to be optimized. In the time-dependent variant, the travel tim...

Solving multi-objective team orienteering problem with time windows using adjustment iterated local search

One of the problems tourism faces is how to make itineraries more effective and efficient. This research has solved the routing problem with the objective of maximizing the score and minimizing the time needed for the tourist’s itinerary. Maximizing the score means collecting a maximum of various kinds of score from each destination that is visited. The profits differ according to whether those...

Approximation Algorithms for Time-Dependent Orienteering

The time-dependent orienteering problem is dual to the time-dependent traveling salesman problem. It consists of visiting a maximum number of sites within a given deadline. The traveling time between two sites is in general dependent on the starting time. For any ε > 0, we provide a (2 + ε)-approximation algorithm for the time-dependent orienteering problem which runs in polynomial time if the ...

Approximation Algorithms for P2P Orienteering and Stochastic Vehicle Routing Problem

We consider the P2P orienteering problem on general metrics and present a (2+ε) approximation algorithm. In the stochastic P2P orienteering problem we are given a metric and each node has a fixed reward and random size. The goal is to devise a strategy for visiting the nodes so as to maximize the expected value of the reward without violating the budget constraints. We present an approximation ...
